What Will The New Medicare Beneficiary Identifier Look Like
The Medicare Beneficiary Identifier is 11 characters long and can include both numbers and capital letters. The identifiers will be randomly chosen and therefore be clearly different from Social Security numbers, so you shouldn’t expect to see all or part of your Social Security number appear in the identifier on your new Medicare card.
Specifically, the first, fourth, seventh, 10th, and 11th characters will always be numbers, while the second, fifth, eighth, and ninth will always be letters. The third and sixth characters can be either letters or numbers. In order to prevent any confusion between letters and numbers, the system will never use the letters S, L, O, I, B, and Z — which some can mistake for the numbers 5, 1, 0, 1, 8, and 2, respectively.

Attention, if you are enrolled in Medicare then you can expect a new Medicare card in the mail soon. In fact, over 60 million Medicare cards are being sent out as a result of the new Medicare number change.

The new cards will be placed in the mail by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services beginning in April, but outreach for this campaign has already started to ensure a smooth transition for everyone involved. As a Medicare-dependent, you do not have to worry, about this change. Everything is being taken care of for you.
Why Am I Getting A New Medicare Card
The biggest problem with the old Medicare card is that it includes the participant’s Social Security number. Therefore, when someone’s card is lost or stolen, it not only threatens to create problems with Medicare-related fraud, but also risks broader financial identity theft. The move allows CMS to protect private healthcare and financial information and to ensure that benefit and service payments are handled correctly.
Congressional legislation passed in 2015 required CMS to remove Social Security numbers from Medicare cards by April 2019. Instead, the current Health Insurance Claim Number — which is identical to one’s Social Security number — will get replaced by the new Medicare Beneficiary Identifier.

How To Get A New Medicare Card
There are several ways to get a new Medicare card. If you need to replace a card because its been damaged or lost, you can sign in to your MyMedicare.gov account and print an official copy of it.

What Information Is On Your Medicare Card
Besides your full name, your Medicare card includes your Medicare number as well as important information about the health insurance coverage to which you are entitled. This includes:2
- Medicare numberThis is one of the most important pieces of information on your Medicare card. Its what the billing department will use when it submits for reimbursement from Medicare. Your Medicare number used to be your Social Security number , but now its a more secure, randomly generated combination of 11 numerals and capital letters. It is confidential and should only be shared with people you trust.3
- Part AIf you have Part A, labeled HOSPITAL, you are entitled to care in a hospital or skilled nursing facility, hospice care and home healthcare. The date your coverage begins is also included.4
- Part BIf you have Part B, labeled MEDICAL, you are entitled to medical care and preventive services. Your coverage starting date for Part B is also included.5
If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you will receive a separate ID card. If your plan covers prescription drugs, your MA card will include that information too. You should use your MA card as your primary Medicare card, but you should still keep your Medicare card in a safe place.

When Will You Get Your New Medicare Card
New Medicare cards 2018 will be mailed out on a staggered scheduled in seven waves based on geographical regions. The first mailing group for April and June includes Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The second wave includes the Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and U.S. territories. The other five groups will be mailed out in June. If you do not have your new card, dont worry. The transition period lasts from April 2018 until December 2019, so you dont need your MIB until then.
You can use your old card until then but should start using your new one as soon as you receive it, as businesses are required to accept your new Medicare number on April 1, 2018.

Between April 2018 and May 2019, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services mailed out new cards to all 60 million active Medicare beneficiaries. The new Medicare cards are designed to thwart identity theft and protect the personal information of Medicare beneficiaries.
The cards contain a new 11-character Medicare beneficiary identifier that replaces the Social Security number-based health insurance claim number used on the old cards. The congressional mandate to remove Social Security numbers from Medicare cards by April 2019 was included in the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act .
Starting Jan. 1, 2020, Medicare will only accept claims submitted with the MBI, though there will be limited exceptions for the use of HICNs, such as appeals and retrospective adjustments. Because this change has the potential to significantly affect practice workflows and revenue, practices should ensure that they are exclusively submitting claims containing MBIs ahead of the end of the HICN to MBI transition period on Dec. 31.

What Is The Medicare Deductible For 2022
The annual Part B deductible has increased to $233 which is $30 more than last year. The standard Part B premium is increasing to $170.10 monthly, which is $21.60 more per month than before.
Part A is free for most people. The Part A deductible increases annually. In 2022, the deductible will be $1,556 for each benefit period. That makes the increase $72 more than last year. But, those who buy into Medicare could pay a full Part A premium of $499 each month. And, those who paid 30-39 quarters could pay $274 per month.
The inpatient hospital benefit period costs are rising slightly for 2022. For days 1-60 beneficiaries will continue to pay $0 each day. Days 61-90 now cost $389 per day. Finally, for days 91 and beyond, youll pay $778 coinsurance for each day. Now, skilled nursing facility copayments also saw an increase days 21-100 cost $194.50 per day.

How Do I Get A Replacement Medicare Card
