Does Medicare Cover Hearing Aids

UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete Medicare Advantage Plan Member Story: Rick & Hearing Aids

En español | Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids.

It might cover a physician-ordered hearing test or treatment of a hearing-related medical condition, but Medicare will not pay for devices to improve hearing or exams to fit them. You are responsible for 100 percent of these costs.

The average price of a pair of digital hearing aids is about $1,500, according to the National Institutes of Health. High-end devices can be as much as $5,000.

The same holds true if you have a Medicare Supplement plan. These plans, also known as Medigap, generally have no hearing-aid coverage.

But if you have a Medicare Advantage plan from a private insurance company, it might cover some of the cost of hearing aids. Check with your plan provider.

If youre a veteran, you have another route to take in searching for help to pay for hearing aids: the Department of Veterans Affairs . If you qualify for VA health benefits, you may qualify for hearing testing and paid-in-full hearing aids.

Does United Healthcare Insurance Cover The Cost Of Hearing Aids

    06/06/2022 | Patient Resources

Unfortunately, two-thirds of people with a hearing loss who would benefit greatly from the right hearing treatment avoid getting it. Some avoid it because they dont think its that bad, but their loved ones would say otherwise.

Much of the reason for this hesitation is from fear of the cost, but it doesnt have to be that way. At Flex Audiology, its my pleasure to help my Indiana patients defray the investment, and one of these ways is through insurance.

But insurance companies can be difficult to work with, and with so many plans, it can be frustrating trying to find out exactly what you are and are not covered for when it comes to your hearing care.

Spending the time researching your options and getting the hearing care you need will help you avoid the risk of cognitive decline, anxiety, and depression as your hearing worsens. Of the many ways to treat a hearing loss, hearing aids are the best.

Many of our patients ask us about their United Healthcare plan and if it covers the cost of hearing exams, hearing aids, and professional hearing services, so we outline your United Healthcare coverage below. The specifics will depend on your individual policy.
